Happy Holidays for Room 19!

New groups

Today we worked together to come up with new names for our groups.  We took turns, gave our ideas and came up with one idea we could all agree on.  Great cooperation second grade!

Math Sharks

We received Math Sharks from PTO! We use them during math stations to practice our addition and subtraction facts!

Writer's celebration

Today we shared our book awards with eachother.  This writing unit, students have been working hard on a friendly letter that persuades someone to choose their favorite book for an award.  It was fun to hear all the awards and books today.  Great job second graders!

Hour of Code certificates

We received our Hour of Code certificates yesterday!  Every student that completed the hour received an official certificate!

Predictions

Today Paula the Predictor came into our classroom and taught us all about predictions!  We learned we can start a prediction with "I think, I'll bet, or I suppose."  Paula uses her magic crystal ball to make predictions.  Second graders used their imaginary crystal balls to make theirs as well.

Ice Cream Celebration!

We earned another 50 class points!!  As a celebration, the students picked an ice cream party.  We enjoyed our ice cream this afternoon!

Hour of Code

This week is Computer Science Education week!  Our class participated in a world wide activity called "The Hour of Code."  We used our iPads and the website Code.org and coded this afternoon!  

Class Meeting

On Tuesday afternoons, we have our class meetings.  Two students are our leaders of the meeting and help direct the rest of the class during our meeting.

Blogging with Bluetooth keyboards

I wrote a grant, and PTO funded Bluetooth keyboards for our classroom!  We are going to use them to blog!!  So cool!

Greg Tang Thanksgiving Challenge

These three students completed the Greg Tang math challenge.  They worked and played math games over Thanksgiving break!  Great work Jaidyn, Claire and Logan!

Author Christine Salamone

Today author Christine Salamone visited the second grade.  She shared her book "It's not so Ruff being a Working Dog."  

Greater than, less than, equal to

Today we learned how to compare numbers using <,>,=.  During math stations we played a fun game about comparing numbers as well.

Virtual Field Trip

Today we took a virtual field trip to learn more about Thanksgiving!  Students were able to learn about the Mayflower, Pilgram village, Wampanog Homesite and Pilmoth Plantation.  Your child can explore and learn more at home too, by going to this website: www.scholastic/scholastic_thanksgiving/webcast.htm.

Proactive

All of these friends were working so hard during our writing time today!  Great work!!

Proactive kids

Coding

Second graders are getting so good at coding!  They've been working hard every Wednesday afternoon on madewithcode.com.  

Needs and wants

We played a needs and wants game.  Today we were asked by the President to identify 16 needs to take to the planet Cresto.  Students worked in groups to figure out what was a true need to take.  

Indoor recess

On this cold snowy day we had indoor recess!  Look all the fun we had playing with our friends!

Jingle for Jammie's

Today was Jingle for Jammies!  We counted the change our class brought in today and we raised $53.67 for support a family!!! Great work second graders!

Reading by a fire

It's a nice cozy day to read by a fire!
