Today second graders practice coding with madewithcode.com.  These second grade computer science workers worked hard on coding their very own Yeti.

Flashlights!

Today, as a part of Red Ribbon Week, students brought flashlights to use during reading time.  We had fun reading in a different way.

Today we celebrated the end of our Personal Narrative unit! Students shared their work with each other.

Reading achievement

Ben wore a reading achievement bragging necklace today!  He read the entire time during his reading group. Great job Ben!

Letter writing

Today we started a new unit in writing.  We are learning how to write a friendly letter.  Students started practicing today writing letters with their partners.

New groups

Today the students moved into new groups.  They brainstormed group names and created their posters for their groups.  

Editing our work

In writing today, we reread our personal narratives and edited our work.  Then we started making our front covers for our stories.  We will be celebrating and sharing our work next week!

Red ribbon week

We're getting ready to Red Ribbon Week!  Today during our counseling lesson, students created slogans and posters against drugs!  These will be hung in our hallways during Red Ribbon Week.

Social Studies Test

Please study with your child for their Social Studies test on Friday. You can use their books to reread Unit 2, use the study guide to help with learning the vocabulary and you can also use the Google Form to have your child work on questions like on our test. You can also have your child play a game using our online book resource to practice the unit 2 vocabulary words.

Landforms

Today we used playdough to make the landforms we learned in Social Studies.  

Hard work

Claire recieved a necklace to wear today from workng so hard in math.  She finished all the questions on her clicker today during math stations.  Way to go Claire!

Second grade coders!

Today we tried a new website.  Madewithcode.com. Computer science and coding is the way of the future.  Second graders can start to learn coding now.  This website is a great site to use to begin learning more and practicing code.  Some students made an avatar, gif, or beats with code today!  

Fluency

We are using our iPads, an app, and a google form to enhance our fluency.  Students use the iPads to record themselves reading, then they listen back to their recording, and then evaluate themselves using a Google form.  

Math stations

We are working hard at all of our math stations today!  Great job second graders.

Hooray!

Lucas was proactive today during writing time.  He wrote the entire time and really tried to make himself a better writer!  Kate W. Worked very hard in writing today too.  She worked the entire time adding to her story and making it better.  Great job!

Two digit addition

Yesterday and today we've been working hard on two digit addition.  We've been using our tens and ones to help us learn regrouping!  This is a very hard skill at first but with lots of practice we will get it.
