Stamping coins

Today in math, students worked on stamping coins.  They were challenged to stamp the correct coins to equal the right amount of change.  Parents, please keep practicing counting coins at home.

Proactive Leaders

These two boys were great leaders today!  They both finished their word work sorting and papers and then began working on other work.  Great work!!

Summaries

We are working hard this week on writing summaries about each child's independent reading book.  Today the students worked hard writing the four most important parts of the book.

Happy 100th day from room 19!



100th Day of School

Today is the 100th day of school. To celebrate, we've been having fun working on hundred themed activities.  Using an app, we even saw what we might look like at one hundred years old!  Check out these cute 100 year olds!

Partner reading

Today with our reading partners we worked on writing summaries.  We are working on all the steps to write a summary.  Today we completed step one of a summary, which is to read the entire book.

Front Row Math

Today we played more on FrontRowEd.com.  The students completed their pretest and then we're put into secret groups.  The secret groups change everyday and compete for the most coins.  Students can buy accessories for their math pig when they earn coins.  So far, we are all loving this site.  Parents and teachers can log on to see their kids results!

We met Ryan Nusbickel today!  He read to us the book he wrote "Who Moved My Gooey Butter Cake?!"  It was so fun to meet him!

Information booklets

Today we started our new unit on writing information booklets.  We looked at our information texts to gather some ideas. Then students picked one topic that they are an expert on and could write about.  Today they shared their ideas with a partner.

Math Stations

Every day after we complete our math lesson students work at their math stations.  Math stations help students practice all second grade math skills.  They are have a choice on what game or activity to play at each stations.  Usually students get to go to two stations everyday during our math time.  Look at these soon to be third graders working so hard on math today!

Quincy the Questioner

This week Quincy the Questioner visits our classroom.  He comes everyday during our reading time and teaches the second graders about questions and why they are important to reading!  Today students worked with their reading partners to write questions for Quincy.  Ask your child about Quincy!

Devices!

Wow!  Several students have brought in their new devices.  We are connecting them to the district Wifi and using them during our reading time to read more books on Storia!
